Do you have...
⯈ A heart for Brussels and for the environment?
⯈ A knack for community organising?
⯈ Strong organisational skills?
If so, then read on!
Who we are and why we are hiring…
⯈ Tournevie is a tool library and community project in Brussels. Our service works exactly like a regular library: in exchange for an annual membership fee of € 40, members get unlimited access to a wide range of quality tools to repair or renovate at home. We have close to 500 active members, a well-equipped wood and metal workshop, and a healthy pool of about 20 volunteers.
⯈ We aim to expand the activities in our new and expanded location in Brussels (500 m² of space in 15 Rue Jacques de Lalaing), and branch out to other areas in Brussels. Thanks to funding from Innoviris, we are developing a new service: users of our wood and metal workshop will be able to order locally sourced materials (such as recuperated wood or wood harvested in Brussels by Sonian Wood Coop), cut to size in our workshop.
⯈ In order to manage this new project, and to alleviate the workload of the core volunteers currently managing our organisation in general, we are looking for an extra pair of hands to manage day to day activities of the tool library, support our volunteers, and help develop new and exciting projects.
Who we are looking for…
We are a horizontal, open organisation, with plenty of volunteer involvement from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. In this context, our ideal candidate:
⯈ Is well organized and feels comfortable working autonomously
⯈ Has previous leadership experience in managing and coordinating volunteers, and/or collaborating with partners in the development of a rapidly evolving project
⯈ Easily connects with new people, and knows how to inspire and support volunteers; in short, has a good sense of humour and acts as a team player
⯈ Is able to communicate in English and French. Dutch is a solid bonus
⯈ Shows a strong involvement in Brussels, the development of its socio-economic fabric and the self-organisation of its citizens
We are looking for a person who is enthusiastic about our organisation’s purpose and values. Experience in DIY (or “Do It Together” as we prefer to call it), tool repair, engineering and so on are great assets, but not essential to join the team.
After all, we are first and foremost looking for someone with a knack for organisation and attention to detail.
What you will be doing…
⯈ Coordinating and motivating volunteers involved in the project
⯈ Managing the inventory and organising opening hours of the tool library
⯈ Carrying out communication & outreach to the community and other projects in BXL
⯈ Managing the budget and associated administrative tasks
⯈ Organising follow-up of our Innoviris project (reporting, tracking expenses etc)
⯈ You will be working alongside and in close collaboration with our workshop coordinator Hugh Roche Kelly;
What we are offering you…
⯈ Contract: an 80% FTE, 1,5 year contract starting October 2021. Depending on the success of ongoing project calls and our activities in 2022, this may be extended.
⯈ Flexibility: your role requires you to be present during tool library opening hours a few evenings per week, but your remaining working hours can be agreed upon to suit your private life or other commitments
⯈ Remuneration: according to the scale PC 329.01 B1c. In addition: phone subscription, commuting allowance, 13th month and year-end bonus. You will also have unlimited access to all of our machines and the wood and metal workshop.
⯈ Support and a horizontal structure: you’ll be working in an invigorating, dynamic and collaborative culture. The Tournevie crew is highly motivated and more than willing to share experience and teach skills (be it on communication, tools, contacts, …). At the same time, you will have ample room to propose new ideas and initiatives.
How to apply…
⯈ Send your CV and your personal way of expressing your interest in the position (via a letter, video, image, …) to jobs@tournevie.be until 23h59 on September 24, 2021.
⯈ Selected candidates will be invited for an interview at 15 Rue Jacques Lalaing in the week of 27 September. We aim to make a decision at the end of that week. Ideally, we want the candidate to start in October.
⯈ Tournevie is an equal opportunities employer.
